Mr. ALLEN ISADORE WEXLER

FORT WORTH -- Allen Isadore Wexler passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Aug. 27, 2016. Mr. Wexler was 97 years old. Service: 11:30 a.m. Monday in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery, 411 N. University Drive. Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams Kaikov will officiate. Following committal prayers, he will be laid to rest in the cemetery next to his wife, Sylvia. A minyan service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Congregation Ahavath Sholom, 4050 S. Hulen St.. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born Sept. 29, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., Al was the son of Harry and Fannie Goldstein Wexler. Recruited to Fort Worth in 1943 to be part of the team developing the B-36 peacebomber, Al worked for the aircraft maker 52 years before retiring. While working, he studied and received a B.S. in aeronautical engineering from Texas Christian University. Al's first home in Fort Worth was a rented room belonging to the Lidell family. It was there he met his future wife, Sylvia. They enjoyed 64 wondrous years together before Sylvia's death in 2011. Their devoted partnership produced three daughter, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Although Al and Sylvia loved being surrounded by family, they looked forward to their many trips to foreign countries and always to getting out on the dance floor as soon as the music started. An avid volunteer, some of the beneficiaries of his generosity included Congregation Ahavath Sholom, Westcliff Elementary School, the Museum of Science and History and Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest. He taught refugees learning to speak English and would stop for anyone stranded along the side of the road with a flat tire! He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Evelyn Cohn. Survivors: In addition to his daughters, Marcia Garoon and her husband, Glenn, Melinda Hayden and her husband, John, and Carol Paul, Al is survived by his grandchildren, Joshua Garoon and his wife, Michal Engelman, Kimberly Garoon Herbert and her husband, Martin, Emily Hayden Ferrick and her husband, Sean, Matt Hayden, Brian Paul and his wife, Leigh, Courtney Paul and Mallory Paul Christ and her husband, Tom; great-grandchildren, Ziv and Stav Garoon, Nora Herbert, Guerin, Hayden and Evelyn Ferrick, and Hudson Paul; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
