Mrs. BETTY LOUISE TURNER CARRUTHERS

FORT WORTH – Betty Louise Turner Carruthers passed peacefully from this life Wednesday morning, November 13, 2019. Mrs. Carruthers was 88. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 pm Sunday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. She will be laid to rest privately next to her husband, Lewis, in Greenwood Memorial Park. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Fort Worth Chapter, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth on July 13, 1931, Betty was the daughter of Carl and Marie Harless Turner. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1949. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Lewis C. Carruthers, on October 14, 1950 in Weatherford and immediately returned to Fort Worth to attend the TCU vs. Texas Tech football game! Betty and Lewis owned and operated several commercial masonry businesses in Fort Worth. Many of the buildings constructed during that time line the Fort Worth skyline. Some of her favorites include the Tarrant County Convention Center, downtown’s Sundance Square, the Bank One building, Rivercrest Country Club, the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, the Texas Section of the Fort Worth Zoo and many of the buildings on the TCU campus. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Betty was positive, encouraging and loved her family unconditionally. She believed in being a great friend and in the importance of being kind. The memories of the children and grandchildren include fun times at the Star C Ranch in Meridian, where Betty always had the Juke Box playing and the dance floor open. She loved to dance and was a great cook, always serving the largest breakfast imagined. The only thing Betty liked better that having a party was attending one. Her great lessons to us all include love, faith, kindness, compassion, honesty and generosity. We will all miss her so much. Her memberships included Poly Baptist Church, the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth, Glen Garden Country Club, Poly High School Alumni Association, Johnny’s Book Club, the Friday Night Dinner Club and First Friday Lunch. The family would like to express a special thank you to Betty’s doctors, the Harris 4th Floor nurses, VITAS Hospice and the Texas Angels. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother and sister-in-law, C. L. and Georgia; and brother-in-law, Charles Carruthers. SURVIVORS: In addition to her children, David and Loretta Carruthers, Susan and John Jose and DeAnn and Kevin Jones, Betty is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whom she cherished and adored, Heather Emery and Scott, Travis Carruthers and Sidni, Jessica Jose Warren and Jared, Ben Carruthers and Bridget, Katherine Proctor and Jeff, Jacqueline Jose, Calvin Jones and Hannah, Julia Carruthers, Johnny Dugas, Knox Emery, Adelaide Proctor, Madeline Emery, Poppy Carruthers, Ellie Carruthers, James Proctor, Sloan Carruthers, Charlie Jones, Pierce Carruthers and Pearl Wauson; brother and his wife, Charlie and Maurine Turner; sister-in-law, Lewelyn Carruthers; special extended family, Thomas and Lyndsey Cheek and Mike Price; and nieces and nephews and their families; and many life-long friends.
