FORT WORTH -- Elbert Joseph “Joe” Coffman died Friday morning, August 3, 2018. He was 86. SERVICE: A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Church, 2401 College Avenue. He will be laid to rest privately in Greenwood Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to St. John’s Church or to the charity of your choice. Joe was born August 11, 1931, in Fort Worth, the son of Oda and Mildred Scarlott Coffman. He was married to Mary Sue Smither for 62 years. Joe was a life-long resident of Fort Worth. He graduated from R. L. Paschal High School and maintained close friendships with many of his classmates throughout his life. He also graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. Joe’s passions were his family, his faith, his work, his Longhorns, travel, spy thrillers, golf and gourmet food and wine. He worked his entire life in the medical supply business. He began his career as a partner with Dr. T. C. Terrell in the Terrell Supply Company of Fort Worth. He still worked as a medical supplies salesman up until March of this year. Joe was active at St. John’s Church for over 30 years, where he served on the vestry. SURVIVORS: In addition to his wife Mary Sue, Joe is survived by his sons, Bob and his wife, MaryCarol, Larry and Michael and his wife, Ami; granddaughter, Cameron; grandsons, Sam, Walker, John Kelly, and Thomas; sister, Shirley Coffman Alter and her husband, Davd; and niece, Alison Alter-McCarthy.
