Mrs. ELIZABETH FRANCIS YOUNG SWAIN

FORT WORTH -- Elizabeth Young Swain passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Aug. 25, 2016, following a brief illness. Mrs. Swain was 95 years old. Celebration of life: 10:30 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary of University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive. She will be laid to rest in East Mount Cemetery, Greenville. Family and friends will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Gentry and Mary Ingle Shelton Music Fund at UCC and the Children's Closet, a UCC ministry that donates clothing and supplies to Fort Worth ISD students, or ACH Child and Family Services, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Fort Worth May 7, 1921, Elizabeth was the daughter of E.C. and Susie Sheets Young. Growing up in the Mistletoe Heights neighborhood where she made many lifelong friends, she attended Lily B. Clayton Elementary, Daggett Middle School and R.L. Paschal High School. Upon graduation, she attended Washington University in St. Louis and Texas Christian University. At TCU Elizabeth met W. Henry Swain, a member of the 1938 TCU National Championship football team. They married in 1940 and moved to Graham where they had and reared three children. A lifelong member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Elizabeth and Henry attended First Christian Church and were charter members of Memorial Christian Church in Graham. In 1970 they moved to Red River, N.M., where the family had vacationed since the '40s. While there she was "first chair piano" for Faith Mountain Fellowship Church. She and Henry lived in New Mexico until 1981 when they moved back to Fort Worth to be near family. They joined University Christian Church where Elizabeth enjoyed the Rose Circle women's fellowship and was on the Gentry and Mary Ingle Shelton Music Fund Committee. She was also a member of the Rejebian Book Club and the Fort Worth Woman's Club. Throughout her life, Elizabeth enjoyed being a mother and homemaker, traveling with her husband and family, watching sports, attending family activities and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family especially thanks her caregivers, Florence Crenshaw, and Sarah Hightower and Amy Johnson of VITAS Home Health Services. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 47 years. Survivors: In addition to her children, Susan Swain Hotard and her husband, John, of Fort Worth, Robert Steven Swain and his wife, Susie, of Arlington and the Rev. Ellen Young Swain of Cimarron, N.M., Elizabeth is survived by grandsons, Christopher Michael Swain and his wife, Erin, of Frisco and Matthew Young Swain and his wife, Lisa, of Forney; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Young Swain, Elizabeth Ann Swain and Brock Harlan Swain; stepgreat-grandchildren, Madeline and Merideth Milby; and several nieces and their families.
