Mrs. KATHRYN ELIZABETH LAWLER FARIS

FORT WORTH -- Kathryn Lawler Faris went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday morning, Sept. 15, 2016. Mrs. Faris was 93. Service: 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, George in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Great Room at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of choice, in her memory, is suggested. Born March 3, 1923 in Cleburne, Kathryn was the daughter of A.C. and Jewel Lawler. As a young child, the family put down roots in Fort Worth. She married George W. Faris Jr. in 1944 while he was serving as a Navy pilot in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. While in the Navy, they were stationed at various locations but Fort Worth always remained home to them. Although Kathryn had a brief career after she was married, her primary focus was raising, loving, and caring for her husband and her their children. Kathryn's church home was Travis Avenue Baptist Church and her faith was an integral part of her life. Consistent with the love for her family, she was involved in projects related to her children growing up including collecting thousands of Green Stamp books to obtain a piano for her children's elementary school, serving as PTA President, and just generally being the chauffeur, chief supporter, and fan for all of her family's endeavors. Always ready to spend time with her five grandchildren, Kathryn enjoyed many days playing everything from cars or dolls on the bedroom floor, to taking them to see plays at Casa Manaña or teaching them to play card games, including poker! She rarely, if ever, missed one of her grandchildren's events and loved to spoil her family and enjoyed spending many holidays with extended family throughout the years. She was active in the Woman's Club of Fort Worth for many years, as was her mother, and played in the same social bridge group for over 50 years. Kathryn will be missed by many, but is basking in the love of her Savior for eternity. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1980; her parents; and her brothers, Cecil and Fred. Survivors: In addition to her children, Vicki Moody and her husband, Charles of Mansfield, and George W. Faris III and his wife, Melodi of Fort Worth, Kathryn was "Mamo" to her grandchildren, Ryan Moody and his fiancée, Kristen Fisher and Kyle Moody and Madison, Lauren, and Emily Faris; Aunt Kathryn to her nephews, Robert M. and Cecil W. Lawler, both of Dallas; and "Auntie Kay" to a large extended family and close friends.
