Mrs. MARY TYLER SHAWVER COCKRAN

FORT WORTH -- Mary Tyler Cockran unexpectedly left this earth for higher ground on June 17, 2017. Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3410 Bellaire Dr. South. A reception will follow in the church's Parish Hall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the Trinity Episcopal Church Altar Guild or Trinity’s Building Fund, in her memory, is suggested. Born April 6, 1930 in Tazewell, Va., Mary Tyler was the apple of the eye to her parents, John William and Mary Olive Bradley Shawver. Mary Tyler was quite a woman ... Giving birth to three girls and raising them to be remarkable women is no easy task. This amazing woman did just that. Mary Tyler's life was full - 87 years young! And yes, this beautiful woman stayed forever young. Not only did she have three children, she had a hand in raising hundreds of 6th graders as she taught school in Botetourt County, Va. until she retired when she moved to Texas with her husband Roy Vernon Cockran. We are confident her husband met her at the gate and asked her what took her so long. He then gave her a big hug and welcomed her home. On her last day on this earth - she went to church, had a lunch date with Grant Liser, her son-in-law, and the grand puppies - went swimming and had plans for another date with her future son-in-law, Ron Sturgeon. It was a fine and happy day. Mary Tyler was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Vernon Cockran, and her son-in-law, Carl McDaniel. Mary Tyler kept us smiling and feeling loved - she made us family. She was a gift to this earth. We love you mom! Survivors: In addition to her three daughters, Mary McDaniel and her husband, John Phillips, Sandra Liser and her husband, Grant, and Linda Allen and her fiancé, Ron Sturgeon, Mary was blessed with four grandsons, John McDaniel and his wife, Shanna, Micheal McDaniel, Blake Allen and Kip Allen; and her two great-grandchildren, Colby and Caroline McDaniel.
