Mrs. SOPHIA EDITH BLUM WEINSTEIN

DALLAS -- Sophia Edith Blum Weinstein died in her home Friday morning, Dec. 9, 2016. Mrs. Weinstein was 103. Service: 2 p.m. Sunday in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery, 411 N. University Drive, with Rabbi Andrew Bloom and Cantor Shoshana Abrams Kaikov officiating. Following committal prayers, she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Max. Bearers of her casket will be her great-grandsons, Michael Garman, Avi Weinstein, Binyamin Weinstein, Peter Hogan, Teddy Hogan, Sam Darrow and Max Darrow. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of choice, in her memory, is suggested. Born in Dallas on June 27, 1913, Sophia lived most of her life in Fort Worth. She was a well known salesperson in fine jewelry at Montgomery Ward for many years. In her free, she loved sewing, needlepointing, crocheting and playing Mah Jongg. Known to almost everyone as "Memaw Sophie," she was mother of one, grandmother of four, great-grandmother of 11 and great-great grandmother of 13. they were the lights of her life. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her loving caregiver, Sue Benjamin, and her caring neighbor, Lyn Golman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Isadore and Nettie Falkin Blum; husband, Max; and her siblings. Survivors: In addition to her son and his wife, Jay and Esther Rae Weinstein, Sophia is survived by her grandchildren, Bonnye and Steve Garman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ric and Cheryl Weinstein of Monsey, New York, and Andi and Doug Hogan and Wendy and Larry Darrow, all of Dallas; as well as her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
