DENNIS EUGENE BREITER

Dennis Eugene Breiter, widower of his beloved wife, Mary Louise Reno Breiter, died Monday afternoon, July 13, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas, with his children at his side. Dennis was 86.

Dennis, lovingly called "Frampa" by his family, was born on May 11, 1940, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, the son of John Kasmir Breiter and Virginia Smolukas Breiter. He was the younger of two boys.

Dennis earned his bachelor's degree at Penn State University, where he met his wife, Mary Lou. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Maryland. After commissioning as an officer in the United States Army, he completed his clinical internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where both of his children, Heather and Eric, were born. He served as a clinical psychologist at Camp Kue in Okinawa and at Fort Ord in California before he and Mary Lou moved to Mobile, Alabama, in 1972.

Dennis was a staff psychologist at the Mobile Mental Health Center and then opened his own private practice, where he worked for decades. He also conducted neuropsychological testing throughout Alabama until he retired in 2000. After retirement, he enjoyed golf, gardening, and traveling with Mary Lou.

Dennis was confident, fiercely independent, comfortable being himself, and always nonjudgmental—traits appreciated and admired by his friends. He enjoyed his pets, watching the weather, loved playing cards and backgammon with his family, and had a deep appreciation for music and Broadway shows, passions which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. Most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a keen sense of humor.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Jerome, and his wife, Mary Lou. He is survived by his daughter, Heather, and her husband, Pat; his son, Eric, and his wife, Katherine; grandchildren Harper, Sawyer, Tiernan, and Colin; niece Kirsten; and cousin Judy.
