DONALD KENT MILLER

January 21, 1943 — November 22, 2024

Fort Worth

Fort Worth, Texas - Donald Kent Miller, known as Kent to family and friends, received the promises of his Baptism Friday morning, November 22. Born in Oklahoma, he grew up in Puerto Rico, where his father was a dentist, serving as the Colonel on the U. S. Air Force Base. Kent graduated from high school as an air force dependent, then joined the U. S. Air Force. He remained in the military for a few years, where his assignments allowed him to travel domestically and internationally.

Following completion of his military service, Kent decided to pursue his dream of being a college professor and returned to college at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Master’s Degree.

Kent was a professor of history and government at Weatherford College for nearly four decades. He loved teaching and was deeply committed to his students’ understanding and appreciation for these important subjects. Known as “Killer Miller,” he was strict and demanding, yet approachable and entertaining, with a delightful sense of humor.

Kent was deeply loved by his wife Cynthia. Their marriage was a true partnership, with shared interests including travel, reading, and music. He will be remembered as a loving father to his daughters, Shannon Lehman of Florida and Ashley Phillips of South Carolina, and granddaughter, Mary Lehman. Cynthia’s daughters, Valerie Johnson of Los Angeles and Diana Johnson of Fort Worth also have cherished memories of the life he shared with their mother.

He was a wonderful friend, teacher, and lover of learning. Kent was loved by his family, friends, and former students, all who will miss him.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 11 am Wednesday, December 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3621 Tulsa Way, Fort Worth, with a reception to follow.
