FORT WORTH -- Floyd William Grona passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Sept. l, 2012, during his 83rd year. Service: 2:30 p.m. Friday in the sanctuary of Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Road, the Rev. Ben Disney officiating; military honors will follow. After a reception at the church, Floyd will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions for cancer research to the American Cancer Society or to Arborlawn United Methodist Church, in his memory, is suggested. The third eldest of seven children born to Otto Herman and Estella Klein Grona, Floyd was born Oct. 3, 1928, and raised along the Pedernales River on Morris Ranch, a German community near Fredericksburg. He attended Texas A&M University in 1949, where he earned the designation of "Distinguished Student." Following graduation, he served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army, including combat duty in Korea where he was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After serving in the military, he was employed by GMAC and worked in various branch management positions, retiring on Jan. 1, l989. He was a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church, the Sojourner Sunday School Class and Mira Vista Country Club. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Peggy Jones Grona, Floyd is survived by his children, daughter, Lark Reddin and her husband, Roger, Carie Burnette and her husband, Todd, and Brian Grona and wife, Allyson; grandchildren, Daniel Reddin, Stephen Reddin, Matthew Reddin, Isabella Burnette, Mary Frances Burnette, William Burnette, Kasey Grona and Parker Grona; sister, Isabell Meier and her husband, Victor; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
