Jack Franklin Hardwick FORT WORTH -- Jack Franklin Hardwick, M.D., 80, loving husband and dad, died at home Wednesday evening, April 10, 2013, in Fort Worth after health issues and complications for the last year. He was retired from 52 years as a family practice physician in Fort Worth. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Westside Unitarian Universalist Church, 901 Page Ave. in Fort Worth. Memorials: Fort Worth Opera, 1300 Gendy St., Fort Worth, Texas 76107; YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth, 512 Lamar St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102; or charity of your choice. Jack was born in Pavo, Ga., on Sept. 14, 1932, to Dora and Vivian Hardwick. He grew up in Georgia and Florida until he was 14 when he moved to Galveston. There he met Pat Williams whom he married. They had four children. He graduated from Ball High School, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Then they moved to Fort Worth where he served as president of the local YMCA up through the International YMCA. He dearly enjoyed his association with The Bridge, Fort Worth Opera, The Breakfast TIP Club, The University of Texas Exes and other community organizations. On Thanksgiving Day 1979 he married Jane Walker. Jack loved football, reading, movies and traveling -- and most especially the practice of medicine. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Beverly Hardwick; and his siblings. Survivors: Wife and best friend of 33 years, Jane Walker Hardwick; sons, David Hardwick of Boston, Mass., and Steve Hardwick and wife, Kathy, of Joshua; daughter, Sandy Hardwick and her wife, Shirley Pettis, of Houston; sister-in-law, Jean Walker of Fort Worth; dear family friend, Nancy Rowe of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Michele Kidd of San Antonio, Blaine Campbell, Crysta Hardwick of Alvin, Amanda Hardwick of Rockport, Jeremy Hardwick of Beaumont, JR Ledbetter and Asia Ledbetter of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Erin and Cody DeSimone, Kyle Kidd, Stephan and Brianna Dunmoodie, Emilie and Tom Hardwick, Christopher Cataldo, Trey Ledbetter and Avery DeSimone; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and many friends.
