Mrs. JO ANN WINTER DYE

Fort Worth, Texas - Jo Ann W. Dye was born on November 22, 1935 in Schulenburg, Texas to Annie Gansky and Alfred Winter. She later moved to Austin and graduated from Travis Heights High School. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Charlie Douglas Dye. Charlie and Jo Ann married in 1956. They had three children, Keith, Carla and Katherine. Jo Ann resided in Austin until Charlie died in 1985. She lived in the Austin area until she moved to Fort Worth in 2006 to be closer to her daughters and granddaughter. Throughout her life, she had a passionate love of music. Jo Ann sang with the Austin Civic Chorus for many years. Christmas would not have been Christmas without attending their annual Christmas concert where they performed excerpts of Handel’s Messiah. After Jo Ann’s move to Round Rock, she became a longtime member of the Round Rock Community Choir and joyfully performed with them for many years. A life-long dream of Jo Ann’s was to learn to play the piano. After Charlie died, she took piano lessons from the Royal School of Music in Austin until she became proficient with the piano. She continued her interest in music after moving to Fort Worth and enjoyed attending the Van Cliburn piano competition with her daughter, Katherine. Throughout her life, Jo Ann enjoyed helping others. She was very active with the Jr. Helping Hand of Austin. Jo Ann was a member of the Ladies Lawyer Auxiliary and was on the board of the Austin YMCA for many years. Jo Ann had many hobbies including gardening, teaching aerobics, working at the ranch she and Charlie owned in Georgetown and throwing magnificent dinner parties where she served exquisite gourmet meals. She passed her love and skill of entertaining on to her daughters. Jo Ann had a strong and abiding love for her family which she exhibited in many ways, even stepping up to be bookkeeper when her father-in-law needed help. She always offered good advice to her family, and was a constant source of support. She cheered everyone on in their endeavors. She was a vibrant, vivacious person and always had a smile on her face.
