FORT WORTH -- John Charles Burden Jr. passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, Nov. 9, 2012, during his 91st year. Service: A memorial celebration of Charlie's life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4629 Bryce Ave., with the Rev. Darryl Pige'on, officiating. Visitation: Family and friends will be received noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions for disabled veterans, in his memory, is suggested. Born on May 29, 1921, in Louisiana at Woodstock Plantation, Charlie was the son of John Charles and Penelope Kilgore Burden. He graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with at BA in business administration. After being honorably discharged at the rank of captain from the U.S. Army Airborne, where he served from 1942 to 1946, Charlie graduated from LSU School of Law in 1948. He practiced law with the firm of Peterman, Gravel, Downs & Burden. Charlie was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. His memberships also included the Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Order, the Episcopal church, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will be remembered for his love, laughter, generosity and joy of life. Mr. Burden was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Suzanne Gartner Burden; and sisters, Nell Burden Noland and Mitzi Burden Singletary. Gratitude from the Burden family is expressed to Charlie's "family" at Town Village Ridgmar, his church family and the staff of Baylor All Saints Medical Center. Survivors: In addition to his children, Julie Burden of Madisonville, La., Eileen B. Arsenault and Paul of Naples, Fla., John Charles "Jack" Burden III of Eureka Springs, Ark., Louise B. Whatley and Vance of Conroe, Nell B. Cook and Steve of Boyce, La., and their mother, Julie Peterman Burden, Charlie is survived by Gary B. Smith of Fort Worth and Larry Ragan and Laura of Santa Barbara, Calif.; grandchildren, Leon Jules Impastato, Julie Peterman "J.P." Impastato Breve' and Bart, Molly Cook Britt and Jeb, Louise Cook Cashion and Ben, Katie Jane Cook, J.R. Foster and Julie, Suzanne Smith and Walker Ragan; and great-grandchildren, Alice Eileen Breve', Julia Burden Breve' and Beck Albright Cashion.
