JOHN L. PATTERSON Jr.

John L. Patterson Jr. passed away peacefully at home after surviving almost 3 years of pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, three sons, both his sisters and two nieces on July 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and dedication.

Born on December 2, 1963 in Oklahoma, John spent his life bringing joy and quick wit to everyone he met. He was highly respected throughout his career as a senior software engineer at Tandy starting in 1985 and then Texas Instruments, retiring at the end of 2012. He spent his free time visiting his mother when she was a nursing home resident and volunteering at Trinity Valley School, where his sons attended, and was active with his sons in cub scouts and boy scouts. After the passing of his mother and his sons becoming adults, John became passionate about playing poker with a schedule of arriving at The Fort Card Room every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the morning when it opened. He was an avid Dr. Who watcher.

John is survived by his wife, Kristen; sons, Ray, George and John and John’s wife Sarah; sisters, Laura Spencer and Cheryl Helms and her husband, Michael. He is also survived by nieces, Sarah DeBaro, Ashlee Spencer, Allison Schein and her husband, Blaze; nephews, Aaron and Alec Spencer; and a large circle of loving extended family and friends, including friends from church, work and boy scouts and especially his poker buddies at The Fort Card Room.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 11:30am Tuesday, July 14, at the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, 1000 Penn Street. Committal of his ashes will be held at 1pm at St. Thomas Becket Catholic Church, 3550 SW Loop 820, followed by a reception.

Jon Jenkins and Robert Strittmatter, Community Hospice, Hand in Home Care, our family members and friends who helped John live his final days in peace and dignity, Trey Harper of Harper & Lucas Funeral Home, PANCAN, Ladera 55+ community and Harris Southwest Hospital.
