Karen Sue Ferstenfeld passed away on February 6, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 79. Karen was dearly loved in life by her husband Leonard, their children, Deborah and Michael, and their grandchildren, Ethan and Emily.
Karen was born April 6, 1946, to Nathan and Dorothy Imber in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Pascal High School before going on to study journalism and receive a bachelor’s in education from the University of Texas at Arlington.
A life long learner and educator, Karen proudly served as a Reading, English, and ESL teacher at several schools over the years including Trimble Technical High School.
Karen will be remembered for her curious and friendly spirit. She always enjoyed striking up conversation and getting to know the people around her.
In her free time, Karen greatly enjoyed reading; she was an active member of the Broadway Cityview Book Club and Library team, where she was blessed to meet many new friends. Most of all Karen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years Leonard Ferstenfeld, her daughter Deborah Mark, son-in-law Jeff Mark, and her parents Nathan Imber and Dorothy Zeff Imber.
Karen is survived by her son Michael (Megan) Ferstenfeld of Austin, Texas, her grandchildren Ethan and Emily Mark, their bonus-mom Julia Mark, as well as her extended family.
Karen’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Baylor, Scott, & White All Saint’s PCU team, who treated Karen with immense kindness in her final days.
Services will be held at Beth-El Congregation, 4900 Briarhaven Road, Fort Worth, TX 76109, on Wednesday, February 11, at 1:30 P.M. with a graveside service to follow in Ahavath Sholom Cemetery.
