Fort Worth, Texas - Mary Elizabeth Jones, aged 72, passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, from cancer. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she dedicated her life to nurturing her family.
After graduating from Scranton Technical High School, she then devoted her career to working as a seamstress and for Friends of the Poor in Scranton, PA. Her commitment to her faith was evident and she attended Shiloh Baptist Church of Scranton. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother, whose life revolved around her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included crocheting and watching "Yellowstone." Mary's deep love for God and her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She embraced all her children and grandchildren, regardless of blood relation, with unconditional love. Mary proudly raised her granddaughter India, demonstrating her unwavering support and love until her last breath and helped raise Essance.
Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter Alberta "Punky" Fox, stepdaughter Elizabeth "Betty" Fox, and her two husbands, Albert Stormes and Roger O. Jones and a brother Arthur Tighe
She is survived by her son, John Tighe of Bloomsburg, PA; son, William Stormes of Fort Worth, TX; and daughter, Betty Jane Chimelis and her husband Robert Chimelis, also of Fort Worth; daughter, Blanche Miller of Elizabeth, NJ; step-daughter, Alberta Fox of Taylor, PA. Mary also played a significant role in raising many of her grandchildren, including Kaden Stormes and Clarence Thomas of Scranton PA, Mary Minnick of Fort Worth, TX, Latifah Minnick of Pittsburgh, PA, Betty Lynn, Tommy, Tammy and Christina Fox of Scranton, PA, Essance and India Stormes of Fort Worth, TX. Toby, Dustin, Marq, Kalysta and Caleb Tighe all of Wilkes Barre, PA, and Ethan Williams; sisters, Kathy Lewis of Scranton, PA, and Peg Rocket of Olyphant, PA; brother, Richard Tighe of Scranton, PA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A "Going Home Party," in celebration of her life, will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in Mary's memory.
