Patricia Lynne Reed

November 7, 1946 — December 31, 2025

Fort Worth

Patricia Lynne Reed, 79, died peacefully while sleeping on Wednesday Dec 31, 2025. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1946, the daughter of David and May Chun.

She was an extraordinary woman, generous in spirit, with a light that touched everyone. She met the love of her life, Ron, at the University of Hawaii in the Wesley Foundation. They married in 1969 and as a Navy wife, she lived around the world with many amazing adventures. She always embraced the local food, culture, and art wherever she went. She threw herself into various community organizations and later her kid’s school lives, even being a substitute art teacher at one point. Art and craft projects were often the focus and eventually led to a thriving desktop publishing home business after buying one of the first Apple Macintosh computers. She brought her unique perspective to community and fellowship building, and always offered to help wherever she went; a skill that lives on through her children.

She carried cultural aspects of her Chinese roots and the Hawaiian spirit of aloha everywhere she went. She thrived in putting extra care in celebrating Lunar New Year as a new beginning each year, making sure every grandchild knew their sign and connection to their heritage.

Her life's passions and advocacy included hunger causes, books, children, art and family. She loved showering her grandchildren with gifts and outings to the theater, botanical gardens, museums, trips, and a cornucopia of amazing dining experiences. More far flung adventures with the family in London, Rome, Paris, and Honolulu will not be soon forgotten.

Patty was the hostess with the mostess. Her extended family and friends were precious to her, and she enjoyed nothing more than organizing family events, parties, and remembering the special people in her life with thoughtful, personalized gifts and tokens of her affection.

As a naval wife she organized and planned many moves in her lifetime. She always embraced the adventure and sought out friendships and community wherever the family was stationed. She filled each home with an abundant amount of love and hospitality, and she will be sorely missed by family and friends in her current home in Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her sister, Barbara Locke; and her niece, Amy Hagiwara.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Reed; her children, Betsy DiPaula (husband Michael) and Daniel Reed (wife Kelly); her sisters, Carol Hagiwara and Cathy Chun (husband David); 6 grandchildren, Zachary DiPaula, Maile DiPaula, David Reed, Alexa DiPaula, Emilee DiPaula, and Adam Reed; and a wonderful extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
