RICHARD VANNOY

FORT WORTH -- Richard Taylor Vannoy, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, Oct. 17, 2012, during his 93rd year. Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Luke's in the Meadow Episcopal Church, 4301 Meadowbrook Drive, the Rev. Susan Slaughter, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Gayland Pool, former pastor, officiating. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, in his memory, is suggested. Born Dec. 3, 1918, in Belton, Richard was one of seven children of Tom and Lessie Kirchner Vannoy. He and his brothers were stars in football, basketball and baseball for the Belton High Tigers. Richard married the love of his life, Eleanor Harth, on June 27, 1940; they were happily married for 72 years. They were longtime members of St. Luke's in the Meadow Episcopal Church. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and proudly served his country on the USS Zeilin in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign. Following his tour of duty, he began his career at Foremost Dairies in Fort Worth, retiring as plant superintendent after 37 years of employment. He had a great love of hunting, fishing, playing golf and woodworking. His most successful hobby was gardening, as he grew the most delicious tomatoes. Richard was loved by everyone who met him and will be remembered for his gentleness, his laugh and his whistling. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Eleanor, Richard is survived by his daughter, Diane Vannoy Yanaway and her husband, Bill; granddaughter, Kerri Cooper; grandson, Justin Yanaway and his wife, Lindsay; and sister, Ruth Vannoy Stewart.
