Westworth Village

Vera Rogers Johnson Moore, a remarkable woman whose life spanned over a century, was born on May 14, 1918. Vera’s parents, Russell and Rose Rogers raised her and her two brothers, Buck and Elton in Toledo, Ohio. In 1946, Vera married W.J. Johnson, with whom she shared a fulfilling life and raised two children, Charles Johnson and Amy Johnson Sims. Her family grew to include two grandchildren, Andrew Kenny and Perry Alan, as well as two step-grandchildren, Atticus and Hunter Sims. After the passing of her first husband, Vera found love again and married Col. Howard M. Moore, Ret. in 1995. In 2024 Vera became great-great-great Aunt Vera to Andrew Jordan of Toledo Ohio.

Vera’s thirst for knowledge and her passion for the arts defined much of her extraordinary journey. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1993 at the age of 75, exemplifying her lifelong commitment to learning. A gifted artist, Vera gained recognition for her award-winning oil and watercolor paintings. She was a vibrant member of the Fort Worth community, taking on leadership roles in organizations such as the Woman’s Club of Fort Worth, Texas Boys’ Choir Inc., Circle “T” Girl Scout Council, Pan American Round Table, Texas Fine Arts Association, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Her dedication extended to philanthropic and cultural endeavors, where she was a patron of the arts, including the Modern Art Museum.

In her professional life, Vera wore many hats. She worked as a bookkeeper, secretary, technical illustrator, and English teacher in Iran. She also displayed an entrepreneurial spirit by starting two businesses, one of which was a secretarial company serving the United States military (1970’s) in Tehran, Iran. Beyond her professional achievements, Vera found joy in her faith as a member of University Christian Church in Fort Worth. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, and sewing. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, creativity, and community service.

The family is grateful to The Westmore Senior Living, St. Gabriel’s Hospice, and Alicia Lemus for her 12 years of care and friendship.

In honor of her 107th birthday, the City of Westworth Village proclaimed May 14, 2025, as "Vera Johnson Moore Day," celebrating a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
